Radiator 5

Radiator 5

Radiator 5. Vintage vibe, drive and magic tone from the 1567a tube mixer. A beast on bass and drums.

Radiator

Introducing the Radiator , a dual drive valve input channel and EQ, based on the classic Altec 1567A tube mixer from the 1960s.

The original Altec 1567A hardware was a rack-mounted five-input tube mixer with removable transformers, a simple two-button equalizer, a front panel unmistakable green and an incredible 97 dB of gain. The sound, by today's standards, is colorful and loud, with a lot of old hardware noise. At the time, it was used in many of Motown's early hits and found its way onto the shelves of countless churches and school auditoriums across the US.

A Bit of History

The unmistakable green- Faced with Altec equipment, and in particular the 1566A and 1567A, played a big role in the formation of the Motown's 1961-1964 media. ;from a 1567A mixer to the huge three-track recorder. Ahhh, when life was simple.

Those preamps and mixers Microphones have a very colorful warm sound and are very loud. The EQ is as simple as possible, with a button for bass and one for treble. After Motown, and after a lot of equipment comes and goes, the fanatics Analogs began to seek out the 1566A and 1567A as cheap sources of real tube sound.

Motown Records Chief Engineer, Russ Terrana (shown here), uses He played the 1567A widely and became part of Motown's distinctive sound. Producer Matt Wallace was a huge fan. Butch Vig and Billy Bush are fans too.

Radiator brings the classic sound of Altec tube for desktop recording platforms, capturing the heat and power distinct from the original hardware. Featuring the original unit's shaped bass and treble controls, a mix control for easy parallel processing, and the saturation and harmonic effects of the input and output amplifiers from the original hardware.

All of these different circuitry elements interact, allowing a wide range of tones to be created with just a few simple knobs. Also, we let you decide if the noise source is on or off.

In recent years, Altec mixers have been chosen by recording studios as an inexpensive way to bring analog color and character to computer based digital recording. With producers like Matt Wallace d the beginning of Maroon 5 using the 1567A in their early hits, and now bands like the Black Keys (who had a custom console made of Altec 1567A), demand and price for these little colored boxes soared.

The computer recorders everywhere can now get Altec tube sound - on all input channels, without the hassle of interfacing with esoteric analog equipment and at a much lower cost. The Radiator also includes the Little Radiator, a simpler single-stage tube preamp model based on the Altec 1566A hardware, the younger brother of the Altec 1567A.
